Thousands show up at rallies nationwide to support Obamacare, led by Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Thousands of people showed up in Warren, MI as well as Boston, MA for rallies to support the the Affordable Care Act, now under attack by a Republican controlled Congress and soon to be Republican President.
The events, organized by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in Michigan, and (D-MA) in Boston, are two of many others in California, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, to show support for the healthcare bill commonly known as Obamacare. The events also addressed expanded health care legislation including single payer health care, referred to some as “Medicare for All.”

In his rally in Michigan, Sen. Sanders told the crowd, “This is the wealthiest country in the history of the world. It is time we got our national priorities right, the United States today, and I hope everybody in America understands it, we are the only major country on Earth not to guarantee health care to all people as a right.” Sanders continued, “Our job today is to defend the Affordable Care Act. Our job tomorrow is to create a Medicare-for-all, single-payer system.” Concerns include what will happen to those with pre-existing conditions, and the nearly 19 million Americans who might lose health insurance in the first year Obamacare is repealed.

At the rally in Boston, Sen. Warren told the crowd, “Republicans didn’t lift a finger to make healthcare better. They want to repeal and run away. Repeal and run is for cowards.” She also promised, “We will fight them every step of the way.”

Sen. Sanders and Sen. Warren have been leading organizational efforts to resist Republican legislation which threatens government programs to help the poor, especially as it concerns health care.
President-elect Donald Trump has repeatedly called for the Affordable Care Act to be repealed and replaced. The Senate and House of Representatives are expected to repeal the bills in the coming weeks.
