Welcome to the first edition of Lima Charlie NatSec. Host Michael Gardner welcomes living legend and U.S. Navy veteran Capt. (Ret.) Gail Harris on to talk about her #GailForce article about the employment of the GBU-43, or MOAB, in Afghanistan. They recap the weapon’s development from lessons learned following the first Gulf War, and ask whether its use is in line with a coherent military strategy. They take a look back at the successes and failures of the previous two administrations, and ask if the current administration has a defined end state for their military actions. Captain Gail Harris (U.S. Navy, Ret.), was the highest-ranking African American female officer in the US Navy at the time of her retirement in 2001. Her 28 year career in intelligence included hands-on leadership during every major conflict from the Cold War, to El Salvador, to Desert Storm, to Kosovo, and she was at the forefront of one of the Department of Defense’s newest challenges, Cyber Warfare.
