Benjamin S. Weiss is a journalist and student at American University in Washington, where he majors in International Relations and minors in Russian Language and Area Studies.

He is the editor-in-chief of AWOL Magazine, a campus-based investigative journalism publication. He has written extensively about sociopolitical issues and national security. Benjamin has a colorful background in studying defense policy — he worked at the Institute for the Study of War in press, media, and government relations, and his research focus at university is on China’s developing asymmetric warfare capabilities.

Benjamin was nominated for both a Hearst Journalism Award and a Society of Professional Journalists ‘Mark of Excellence’ Award in 2017. In 2018, he was the executive producer on an award-winning podcast series through AWOL Magazine.
