Montenegro joins NATO amid increased tensions with Russia

Montenegro has joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as its 29th member as of June 5, 2017. United States Undersecretary for Political Affairs Thomas A. Shannon hosted a Washington D.C. ceremony celebrating, and announcing, the agreement.
